The Gainesville Hurricanes will head out to take on the Bradford Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gainesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Gainesville was able to grind out a solid victory over Branford, taking the game 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hurricanes.
Cade Dixon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Esteban Barranco, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Connor Kemph also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Gainesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Bradford posted their closest win since February 20th on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Interlachen 6-4. The victory was some much needed relief for the Tornadoes as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Like Gainesville, Bradford also got a great game from a two-way player: Avery Burgin. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Burgin was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, Nehemiah Flowers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Bradford now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Gainesville, their record is now 6-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gainesville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bradford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gainesville came up short against Bradford in their previous meeting back in February, falling 3-0. Can Gainesville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
