Cory-Rawson had lost 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-12 to make it 13. They fell just short of the Riverdale Falcons by a score of 8-7. If the Fighting Hornets were looking for revenge after losing 14-4 to the Falcons when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Mason Hall was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Shyler Ludwig made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Trevor Hibbard was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Riverdale, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 14, 2024.
On Riverdale's side, the team relied heavily on Grady Phelps, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. The Falcons are undefeated when Phelps posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evan Reiter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Looking ahead, Cory-Rawson will head out to face off against Arlington at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Red Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.75 runs per game on average), something the Fighting Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Riverdale, they will face off against Van Buren at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
