Gilmer County has gone a perfect 10-0 against Webster County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Titans will challenge the Highlanders at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Gilmer County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Greenbrier West on Wednesday. The Titans blew past the Cavaliers 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Kolten Holbert, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Guage Goodrich also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Gilmer County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenbrier West only posted a batting average of .062.
Meanwhile, Webster County came into Tuesday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Richwood on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. Considering the Highlanders' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Maddox Brown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Webster County got a massive performance out of Hayden Myers, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Issac Snyder was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
The win (which was Gilmer County's third in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Webster County, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gilmer County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Webster County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gilmer County skirted past Webster County 5-4 in their previous matchup on April 1st. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
