The Bertie Falcons struggled with assists on Friday (the Gates County Red Barons had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Bertie suffered a tough 54-30 loss at the hands of the Red Barons. Bertie has not had much luck with the Red Barons recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Bertie's loss came despite strong showings from Alexia Dickerson and Rakiyah Peele. Dickerson scored four points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks, while Peele dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 43.3% of Bertie's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Gates County found their leader in underclassman Zariah Rogers, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rogers has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kyndall Banks, who scored eight points along with nine steals and six rebounds.
Bertie's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Gates County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bertie will take on the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gates County, they will head out on the road to take on the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Martin County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 470th, while the Red Barons are ranked 120th).
