Almira-Coulee-Hartline was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Curlew apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Almira-Coulee-Hartline lost, one person who can't be blamed is Beth Okamoto. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points. Naomi Molitor was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Emma Lena Baker was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals for Curlew. Baker has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Malia Sonsteng, who scored six points.
This is the second loss in a row for Almira-Coulee-Hartline and nudges their season record down to 9-6. As for Curlew, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Almira-Coulee-Hartline will take on Mary Walker at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mary Walker is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Curlew, they will be playing at home against Northport at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northport will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 304th, while Curlew is ranked 82nd).
