Pottsville is 7-0 against Shamokin Area since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Pottsville Crimson Tide will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Shamokin Area Indians at 1:30 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Pottsville beat Williamsport 43-37. Given Pottsville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Williamsport is ranked 570th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pottsville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Alvarez, who scored 11 points. The contest was Alvarez's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Letrel Montone, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Shamokin Area beat Danville 50-40 last Friday.
Pottsville pushed their record up to 6-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Shamokin Area, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Pottsville won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, slipping by Shamokin Area 32-31. Will Pottsville repeat their success, or does Shamokin Area have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
