Coalfield AA recap October 22, 2013
James Monroe was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 13th to ninth in Coalfield AA. Earlier in the week, the Mavericks triumphed over Mt. View 52-22.
Bluefield extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating WestSide, 61-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Beavers.
Hunter Simmons was a key player and the best on defense this week as Wyoming East topped Shady Spring. The 5-foot-11 defensive end grabbed 3 sacks.
Jacob Thayer threw for 328 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 26-43 with 2 interceptions.
Dalton Davis was the best wideout in the league this week as Webster County lost to Greenbrier West. Davis tallied 12 receptions for 195 yards. Walker Lawson helped Webster County's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 54 yards.
Webster County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Highlanders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Thayer has thrown for 1,108 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Davis has 40 catches for 810 yards.
The marquee game in Coalfield AA this week will be the clash between Bluefield and Oak Hill. Fred Simon's team comes into the matchup ranked 13th in the state, while the Red Devils ranks 19th.
The Renegades lost to the Beavers 61-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
