Basketball Game Preview: Fort Ann Cardinals vs. Germantown Clippers

The Fort Ann Cardinals will face off against the Germantown Clippers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Fort Ann will be strutting in after a victory while Germantown will be coming in after a loss.

Fort Ann was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Johnsburg Central last Tuesday. Everything went Fort Ann's way against Johnsburg Central as Fort Ann made off with a 66-44 win. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.

Javier Hernandez was his usual excellent self, to rack up 35 points along with five rebounds and four blocks. His big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Kadence Cutter, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

Fort Ann smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Germantown was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against Greenville, falling 78-38. While losing is never fun, the Clippers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 900th, while the Spartans are ranked 300th).

Fort Ann has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points over those games. Germantown's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Fort Ann came up short against Germantown when the teams last played back in February of 2019, falling 44-38. Can Fort Ann avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
