The Lake Region Thunder struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Lake Region ended up on the wrong side of a rough 66-45 walloping at the hands of the Hawks. While losing is never fun, Lake Region can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Hawks are ranked 32nd).
When it comes to explaining why Lake Region lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dwayne Lattimore. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with two steals. Lattimore is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenton Allen, who scored 11 points.
Leading Santa Fe Catholic to victory were Tate Darner and Hudson Dykhuizen. Darner scored 19 points along with two steals, while Dykhuizen scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Danilo Stankovic was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Lake Region and nudges their season record down to 12-11. As for Santa Fe Catholic, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 20-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Region will take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bridge to Independence has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Santa Fe Catholic, they will be playing at home against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbia has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 238 points over their last four matchups.
