The Seguin Matadors will take on the Edison Golden Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Seguin sitting on 11 straight victories and Edison on six.
Last Friday, Seguin got the win against Brackenridge by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Matadors, who have now won seven matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Kevin Lingueno and Corey Dailey did most of the damage at the plate: Lingueno scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Dailey went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run marked the first that Dailey launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Welfel, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Seguin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brackenridge only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Edison was able to grind out a solid win over Burbank on Friday, taking the game 6-2.
The team relied heavily on Samaad Bunch, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. Hector Narvaez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
Seguin's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Edison, their record is now 12-4.
Seguin came out on top in a nail-biter against Edison in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 10-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Matadors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
