The Godwin Eagles will square off against the Maury Commodores at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Godwin 3.5, Maury 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Godwin is returning to their home field after beating Freeman on theirs, despite the fact Freeman has dominated at home this season. The Eagles came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 6-3 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won four in a row.
Jacob Babcock was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Babcock was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Alex Boyd was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Matthew Hartsfield was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Maury never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Manor as they made off with an 18-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Commodores, who have now won seven games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Like Godwin, Maury also got a great game from a two-way player: Foster Harris. On the mound, Harris pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Casey Deshazo kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. At the plate, Harris went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Deshazo went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those runs were Harris' first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landen Hall, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lee Garris, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Godwin's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Maury, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Godwin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Maury struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Godwin skirted past Maury 9-8 in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Commodores turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
