Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, a fact the American Eagles proved on Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-24 victory over Independence on the road. Given American's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Independence is ranked 747th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
American's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dylan JaWei Lee led the charge by scoring 9 points along with 7 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiratraj Sanghera, who scored 11 points.
Despite the loss, Independence still got an impressive performance from William Chattmon, who scored 6 points along with 5 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for American and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
American is on the road again on Saturday and play against Evergreen Valley at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd. As for Independence, they will square off against Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Hill's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
