For Wayne City, this counts as revenge for the 50-40 loss Murphysboro walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Greenlea Vaughan was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Wayne City's points. Josie Greenwalt was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Wayne City's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-20. As for Murphysboro, they dropped their record down to 1-25 with that loss, which was their 23rd straight on the road dating back to last season.
Wayne City will take on Mt. Carmel at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Carmel will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Wayne City surely won't give up without a fight. As for Murphysboro, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Pope County at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Pope County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season.
