The Legacy Charter Eagles will challenge the Oak Ridge Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Legacy Charter has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Legacy Charter came up short against Oasis Christian on Monday, falling 13-5. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jake Threadgill put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Threadgill was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gaven Arana was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Chani Abreu, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Oak Ridge, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Cocoa on Monday as they made off with a 14-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pioneers considering their two-run performance the game before.
Like Legacy Charter, Oak Ridge also got a great game from a two-way player: Kengel Navarro. On the mound, Navarro struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Isaac Gomez pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Oak Ridge is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-11 otherwise. At bat, Navarro scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Gomez scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Gomez has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Santiago Velasquez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Valle, who scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Oak Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cocoa only posted an OBP of .423.
Oak Ridge's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12. As for Legacy Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Legacy Charter has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Oak Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
