The Florence Huskies had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 66-51 victory over Weld Central. For Florence, this counts as revenge for the 59-35 loss Weld Central walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Florence's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gunnar Phillips led the charge by scoring 19 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Phillips scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Goodall, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Florence pushed their record up to 3-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Weld Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Florence won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Monte Vista at 1:00 p.m. on December 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Monte Vista is ranked 194th, while Florence is ranked 211th). Weld Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Dolores Huerta Prep at 10:00 a.m. on December 16th. Dolores Huerta Prep is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
