Basketball Recap: Fairfield's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Fairfield entered their tilt with Lakeland on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They enjoyed a cozy 56-39 win over the Lakeland Lakers. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Lakers are ranked 265th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lakeland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cara Schackow, who posted six points and six rebounds. Schackow is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Zoey Bowman was another key player, putting up ten points and seven rebounds.

Fairfield's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Lakeland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Fairfield Falcons duke it out with the Fremont Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fremont will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Fairfield surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lakeland, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bethany Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lakeland is facing Bethany Christian at the right time seeing as Bethany Christian is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
