Lewisburg is 0-4 against Tupelo since October of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Patriots are taking a road trip to challenge the Golden Wave at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Lewisburg is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Hernando on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Patriots came up short against the Tigers, falling 52-31. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Tigers are ranked 45th).

Despite the defeat, Lewisburg got top-tier performance from Kaysen Wiggins, who threw for 327 yards and one TD while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown. A healthy portion of Wiggins' aerial production (178 yards to be exact) went to Cael Riden.
Meanwhile, Tupelo had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 38-13 win. The result was nothing new for the Golden Wave, who have now won five matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Tupelo's win came from a few key players Lewisburg will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Braylen Williams, who rushed for 80 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 83 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Jaeden Hill, who gained 115 total yards and a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Tupelo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 222 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Tupelo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Iverson McCoy. Jareylan McCoy was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Tupelo's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Lewisburg, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Lewisburg has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 152.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tupelo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 284.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Lewisburg was taken down by Tupelo 48-7 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Patriots were down 42-0.
