On Thursday, Brewer escaped with a win against Kaufman by the margin of a single free throw, 54-53. Given Brewer's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Kaufman is ranked 319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Julian Perez was his usual excellent self, scoring 36 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was his 20th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tre King, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Brewer is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for Kaufman, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brewer is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Saginaw at 3:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Saginaw is on a five-game streak of home wins, Brewer a 14-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Kaufman and Sunnyvale will face off on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
