Baseball Recap: Rockwall Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Rockwall had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Longview Lobos a 10-0 shutout. The Yellowjackets not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 6th (when they won 14-3).

Hudson Holt made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Rockwall is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7-2 otherwise. Holt was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Maddox Bain looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Rockwall let Kace Cavin and Jake Usrey run wild. Cavin went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Usrey got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs. Usrey is becoming a predictor of Rockwall's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-0-1 (and 4-7-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was AJ Newby, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Rockwall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Rockwall's victory bumped their record up to 6-7-3. As for Longview, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15.

Rockwall will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lobos: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
