The Cypress Creek Coyotes waltzed into their matchup Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Gulf with a 45-41 win. For Cypress Creek, this counts as revenge for the 66-27 defeat Gulf walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2022.
Cypress Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carinne Washington led the charge by scoring 21 points along with five rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. Olivia Pendleton was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Gulf lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brenniyah Hall, who scored eight points along with seven steals. Hall is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristin Erstentine, who scored seven points.
Cypress Creek is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. As for Gulf, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.
Cypress Creek will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fivay at 6:30 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully Fivay focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 40 on December 30, 2023. Gulf won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wesley Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on December 22, 2023. Wesley Chapel presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Gulf in Florida (Wesley Chapel is ranked 167th, while Gulf is ranked 339th).
