Normal Community has won five straight games at home, while Mahomet-Seymour has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Ironmen will host the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Normal Community beat LeRoy 6-1.
Ava Prevo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hayley Michels was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Baughman, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mahomet-Seymour). Everything went their way against Taylorville on Monday as they made off with an 18-2 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ainsley Whitaker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Whitaker was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Mahomet-Seymour got a massive performance out of Lilly Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Presley Cox, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Mahomet-Seymour was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in six consecutive matches.
Normal Community is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mahomet-Seymour, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
