Fans got a thrill when Darrien Bell and Taifa Wright connected against Torrington. The connection went for 67 yards, the longest such play in Naugatuck Valley - Brass this season.
Wilby scaled the state rankings by moving to 72 from 111 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats were able to move up by topping the Red Raiders 34-19.
Vincient Gambino threw for 274 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 24-35 with 2 interceptions.
Wright was the best wideout in the league this week as Wilby bested Torrington. Wright racked up 6 receptions for 175 yards.
Gambino put up the best numbers through the air as Wolcott fell to Naugatuck. Gambino's favorite target this week was Jay Pelletier, who caught 10 passes for 120 yards.
Michael Kreiger was a passing and rushing force as Derby defeated Holy Cross. He completed 15 passes for 283 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 90 yards. Kreiger's key target this week was Josh Russell, who caught 4 passes for 108 yards.
Anthony Yordon was the best running back in Naugatuck Valley - Brass this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 205 yards as Watertown bested Gaitan Rodriguez's team. Raheim McNeil also contributed to the rushing game with 87 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Red Raiders' Kreiger and Tyler Dobek have proven to be a lethal combination. Kreiger has thrown for 444 yards this season, while Dobek, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has 11 catches for 187 yards. Arkeel Newsome from Ansonia leads the league in rushing with 348 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Wilby takes on second place Derby. The Wildcats defeated the Red Raiders last week, while Derby topped the Crusaders.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when George French's team's Dobek goes up against Wilby's Kasseme Smith.
Next week's game between the Red Raiders and the Wildcats will feature a good passing match up as Kreiger will test his arm against Smith's defensive ability.
The Chargers took down Sacred Heart 54-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Newsome ran for 165 yards during the win.
