The North Stokes Vikings won the last time they faced the Starmount Rams, and things went their way on Tuesday too. North Stokes walked away with a 49-42 win over the Rams. Given North Stokes' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Rams are ranked 397th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Starmount saw an underclassman step up: Molly Swaim almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Swaim pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carley Money, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
North Stokes is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Starmount, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
North Stokes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Alleghany is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Starmount, they will head out on the road to challenge the Granite Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
