Northeast Guilford (McLeansville, N.C.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 10 points, drop to three before the final whistle blew on a 24-21 victory over
Ledford (Thomasville, N.C.).
The Panthers pulled ahead on a
Duke Boger touchdown pass to
Austin Humphries, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-10. The Rams scored the winning points with a rushing touchdown that came in the third quarter.
Ledford's Humphries played well. The junior tight end caught one touchdown.
Northeast Guilford also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 35-28.
The victory was a step in the right direction for NG, which was coming off a 28-17 defeat at the hands of North Forsyth in its previous game.
