The Merrill Vandals will challenge the Breckenridge Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
12 must be Merrill's lucky number: they beat Webberville with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Vandals beat the Spartans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-8. The win continues a trend for the Vandals in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.
Meanwhile, Breckenridge got themselves on the board against Vestaburg on Monday, but Vestaburg never followed suit. They blew past the Wolverines 12-0. Considering the Huskies have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Blaze Snyder made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Snyder was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Breckenridge let Noah Barr and Gavin Corbat run wild. Barr went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Corbat went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Corbat has posted over his last 11 contests. Mikel Wolgast was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Breckenridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vestaburg only posted an OBP of .250.
Merrill now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Breckenridge, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Merrill beat Breckenridge 4-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Do the Vandals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
