Caverna hasn't had much luck against Metcalfe County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Colonels will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Hornets at 5:30 p.m. One thing working in Caverna's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
Ten must be Caverna's lucky number: they beat Bullitt Central with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Colonels beat the Cougars by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-2. While the Colonels didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Adreana Salvador was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayanah Nuckols, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Nuckols is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least three every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Summer Sallee, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Metcalfe County came up short against Clinton County on Thursday, falling 12-5. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Harper Hurt was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of LeeElla Boles, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Caverna's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average this season. As for Metcalfe County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Caverna might still be hurting after the 18-3 defeat they got from Metcalfe County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Colonels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
