Emerald is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Yellowjackets an eight-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Emerald Vikings will take on the Union County Yellowjackets at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Emerald was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 42-37 to the Wolverines.
Emerald's loss came about despite a quality game from Ti'yonia Tennant, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks. Tennant is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrianna Smith, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Union County had to suffer through a rough 59-16 loss at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, Union County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while the Panthers are ranked 114th).
Emerald has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Union County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.
Everything came up roses for Emerald against the Yellowjackets in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 69-23 win. Does Emerald have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
