The Chaparral Lobos will be taking part in a tournament against the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Chaparral's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matches.
Chaparral gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over Eunice. The Lobos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.
Israel Nieto made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicolas Flores, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aiden Munoz, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Chaparral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Mesilla Valley Christian School sidestepped Ruidoso for a 6-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the SonBlazers.
Jeremiah Sullivan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Matt Borde was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Davis Coyle, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Chaparral has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. Mesilla Valley Christian School's victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Mesilla Valley Christian School's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Chaparral has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mesilla Valley Christian School, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Chaparral keep running through batters, or will Mesilla Valley Christian School buck the trend?
Chaparral suffered a grim 25-14 defeat to Mesilla Valley Christian School when the teams last played back in March of 2016. Can Chaparral avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
