Bowie has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Austin Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Austin took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Bowie, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Bowie never let their opponents score. They breezed by San Elizario at home to the tune of 49-0. The result was nothing new for Bowie, who have now won three contests by 24 points or more so far this season.
Bowie's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Abraham Carrasco, who threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes. Bowie also got help from Antonio Ontiveros who showed off his sure hands for 160 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Austin came up short against Riverside on Friday and fell 29-20. Austin gained 145 more yards on the day, but it was Riverside that made the best of use of them.
Austin's loss came about despite a quality game from Ruben Bustillos, who rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Oscar Flores, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Bowie's victory was their seventh straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Jefferson and 1-7 San Elizario (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 25% over those games). As for Austin, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Bowie has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 266.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Austin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 232.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Bowie was taken down by Austin 35-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Bowie, Jayden Wilson (who rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 40 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
