The Highlands Owls fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They strolled past Jefferson with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 49-30. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Highlands also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Leading Highlands to victory were Andrea Garza and Zoe Barron. Garza scored 14 points, while Barron scored 14 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Garza has scored all season. Aaliyah Jackson was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 12 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Jefferson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marina Guajardo. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Guajardo scored 15 or more points.
Highlands' victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-25. As for Jefferson, they are on a 17-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-26.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highlands will take on the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Burbank presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Owls in Texas (the Bulldogs are ranked 357th, while the Owls are ranked 990th). As for Jefferson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Brahmas at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. MacArthur is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
