Basketball Recap: Wayne County Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Wayne County duked it out withMarshall County on Friday. The Wayne County Wildcats lost 68-47 to the Marshall County Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since January 2, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Wayne County lost, don't look at Sayler Skelton. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 13 on his way to 19 points and three steals. That's the most points Skelton has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Davis, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points.

Marshall County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamahl Gentry out in front who went 8 of 11 en route to 20 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jayce Harney, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Wayne County moved to 7-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Marshall County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Wayne County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-55 victory against Lincoln County on the 28th. Marshall County has also already played their next game, a 71-68 defeat against Eagleville on the 28th.
