Destin has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Pensacola Catholic Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Destin comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Destin lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Monday was a bit more commanding. They were beaten by Freeport 50-20. While losing is never fun, Destin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 578th, while Freeport is ranked 260th).
Meanwhile, Pensacola Catholic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 49-27 loss at the hands of Gulf Breeze. The matchup was a close 18-16 at the break, but unfortunately for Pensacola Catholic it sure didn't stay that way.
Destin bumped their record down to 2-10 with that loss, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Pensacola Catholic, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Destin came up short against Pensacola Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 40-28. Can Destin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
