Baseball Recap: Sullivan East Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Sullivan East can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Johnson County Longhorns an 8-0 shutout. The Patriots not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 13th (when they won 13-0).

Kaden Hicks made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Peyton Lingerfelt was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Luke Blevins, who earned two RBI and two runs.

Sullivan East's win bumped their record up to 6-16. As for Johnson County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sullivan East will take on Chuckey-Doak at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Black Knights have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Johnson County, they will face off against University School at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
