The Monarch Knights are taking a road trip to face off against the Doral Academy Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Monarch comes in on three and Doral Academy on nine.
Monarch is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Fort Lauderdale. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since March 6th.
The team relied heavily on Sara Connor, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Mylie Carlson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Doral Academy's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Miami Beach a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Firebirds have won 22 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Camila Diaz looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Doral Academy got a massive performance out of Alondra Aldebol-Borrero, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Anabela Abdullah, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Doral Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .348 or higher in six consecutive games.
Doral Academy's victory was their 26th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 27-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Monarch, their record now sits at 12-10.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monarch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .404. However, it's not like Doral Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .394. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Monarch might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Doral Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
