Owen has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Owen Warhorses and the Avery County Vikings will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Owen will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 536th, while Avery County is ranked 249th).
Owen posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat NCSSM: Morganton 52-9 at home. The win was just what Owen needed coming off of a 68-32 defeat in their prior match.
Among those leading the charge was Ellie Martin, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Mia Roland, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Avery County didn't have too much trouble with Madison at home on Friday as they won 63-44.
Avery County can attribute much of their success to Maddy Barrett, who scored 20 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barrett has scored all season. Zoie Mcclarrin was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with nine rebounds.
Owen's record is now 3-12. As for Avery County, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Owen came up short against Avery County when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 55-48. Can Owen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
