Basketball Recap: Plainfield South Skates Past Plainfield East with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plainfield South). They blew past the Plainfield East Bengals 73-46 on Tuesday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.

Plainfield South was led to victory by Layla Lesure and La'Niya Willis. Lesure dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds, while Willis went 8 of 18 on her way to 20 points and four steals. Willis' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zahira Edwards, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 15 points.

Despite the loss, Plainfield East saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emma Rodgers posted 11 points and five rebounds. What's more, Rodgers also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2023. Khloe Oglesby was another key player, putting up six points and ten rebounds.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Plainfield South, bringing their record for this year to 4-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Plainfield East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Plainfield South Cougars take on the Plainfield Central Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Plainfield East, they will head out to face off against Joliet West at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Plainfield East is facing Joliet West at the right time seeing as Joliet West is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
