The Lapeer Lightning will challenge the Grand Blanc Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Lapeer made easy work of Swartz Creek and carried off a 14-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lightning.
Gabby Speagle spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Hailey Mozola was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mattie Tracy, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lapeer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Grand Blanc was able to grind out a solid win over Lakeland on Saturday, taking the game 7-2.
Savannah Schultz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alaina Trotter was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kate Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Lapeer's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Grand Blanc, their win bumped their record up to 18-3.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lapeer hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Grand Blanc struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lapeer might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Grand Blanc when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Lightning have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
