After flying high against the Cottonwood Bears last Monday, the Carroll Eagles came back down to earth. Carroll fell just short of Headland by a score of 44-41. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Carroll came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Headland is ranked 306th).
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Culver, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Culver is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was N'jia Gosha, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Carroll's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-6. As for Headland, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carroll's road trip will continue as they head out to face Red Level at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for Headland, they will square off against New Brockton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. New Brockton is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
