The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Frederick Douglass nor Bryan Station made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Broncos sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Defenders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Broncos have posted since April 17th.
Like South Oldham, Frederick Douglass also got a great game from a two-way player: Savannah Wombles. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Wombles has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jarynn Bowman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Frederick Douglass has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for South Oldham, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Oldham hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Frederick Douglass struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
