Meanwhile, Norwich Free Academy faced Fitch in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Falcons 8-7. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by just one run.
Dakota Bourdon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Bourdon was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and one run.
In other batting news, Norwich Free Academy got a massive performance out of Mackenzie Rathbun, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Amity Regional's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Norwich Free Academy, their record now sits at 11-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Amity Regional hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Norwich Free Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Amity Regional couldn't quite get it done against Norwich Free Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
