Basketball Game Preview: Lehi Pioneers vs. American Fork Cavemen

The Lehi Pioneers will face off against the American Fork Cavemen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

American Fork will be up against a hot Lehi team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Lehi snuck past Pleasant Grove with a 74-68 victory on Friday.

Lehi relied on the efforts of Ashton Shewell, who posted 27 points, and Easton Hawkins, who scored 21 points along with five assists and five boards. Hawkins' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Saxon Young was another key player, putting up six points and nine assists.

Meanwhile, American Fork was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 60-56 to Skyridge. That's two games in a row now that the Cavemen have lost by exactly four points.

Lehi will have to contain Bryce Mella as he made an impact in American Fork's last game. He went 9 for 15 en route to 27 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sven Hansen, who had ten points.

American Fork dropped their record down to 5-13 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Lehi, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
