The Middleton Tigers will take on the Falkner Eagles at 7:35 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Middleton barely beat Jumpertown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Middleton blew past Jumpertown 15-1 on Thursday.
Kamren Bumpus made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Bumpus was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on William Cornelius, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Brody Cornelius, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Middleton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jumpertown only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, everything went Falkner's way against Thrasher on Thursday as Falkner made off with a 12-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Middleton, Falkner also got a great game from a two-way player: Gavin Wooley. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wooley has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Falkner let John Lumpkin and Jackson Jordan run wild. Lumpkin scored four runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Jordan went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The dominant performance gave Jordan a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Mauney, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Falkner pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Middleton, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
