Grand County is 2-8 against the Broncos since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Both teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Grand County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 17 contests.
Grand County pushed their score all the way to 63 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Duchesne by a score of 66-63.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Trace York, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Mckinney, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, San Juan pushed their score all the way to 60 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Summit. San Juan has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
San Juan's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Tripp Palmer, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, and Anthony Done who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Palmer has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Weston Jones, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, San Juan were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Summit only racked up eight assists.
Grand County's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-10. As for San Juan, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-13.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Grand County have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.1% of their threes per game. However, it's not like San Juan struggles in that department as they've made 38% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Grand County didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Broncos when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 73-67 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grand County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
