The Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the St. Catherine's Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Isle of Wight Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand the Chargers an 8-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.
Sophia Peterson and Audrey Haywood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Peterson tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Haywood didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Peterson went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Haywood went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Peterson has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Knicely, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Reagan Litchford, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, St. Catherine's entered their tilt with Christchurch School on Thursday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Seahorses.
Like Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association, St. Catherine's also got a great game from a pair of two-way players: Keira Frazier. On the mound, Frazier tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jenna Keefer struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). At bat, Frazier scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Keefer went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Olivia Tull was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Day Vetter was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
St. Catherine's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
St. Catherine's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association, their record is now 7-3.
Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association came up short against St. Catherine's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 4-1. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
