Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Summer Creek Bulldogs walked away with it. They managed a 35-31 win over the Hurricanes on Saturday. Summer Creek's victory was all the more impressive since Fort Bend Hightower was averaging only 16.79 points allowed on the season.
Summer Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lloyd Avant out in front who rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Avant has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last six times he's played. Blake Thomas was another key contributor, throwing for 134 yards and a touchdown.
The win (which was Summer Creek's eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.1 points per game. As for Fort Bend Hightower, their loss dropped their record down to 12-2.
Summer Creek will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Steele at 4:00 p.m. on December 9th. Steele will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak. Fort Bend Hightower does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
