Wittenberg-Birnamwood dropped their record down to 11-7 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 15-8 to the Antigo Red Robins. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Chargers have suffered since May 13, 2024.
Rory Salvesen was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Zoey Thorson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
As for Antigo, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5. Considering they have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
On Antigo's side, Bethany Lewis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Lewis has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Breleigh Akright and Sydnie Heinzen did most of the damage at the plate: Akright went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Heinzen went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Heinzen a new career-high. Jewel Wiex was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run.
Coincidentally, Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Antigo will both be playing Auburndale the next time they take the field. The Chargers will host the Apaches at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Red Robins will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
