The Williamson Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Murphy Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Williamson has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Tuesday, Williamson was able to grind out a solid win over Rain, taking the game 63-51. Given Williamson's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Rain is ranked 254th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Murphy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 53-49 to Theodore. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Murphy in their matchups with Theodore: they've now lost five in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Deangelon Johnson, who scored 22 points. Another player making a difference was Kinley Simmons, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Williamson is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Murphy, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-9.
Williamson couldn't quite finish off Murphy when the teams last played back in January of 2023 and fell 46-44. Can Williamson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
