After a string of five wins, the Carterville Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 56-37 to Massac County. Carterville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played last Saturday.
Carterville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Amayah Doyle, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 37.8% of Carterville's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Khamari Jackson, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Carterville's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-6. As for Massac County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carterville will face off against the Red Devils at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Murphysboro has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28. As for Massac County, they will head out on the road to square off against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
