Norris City-Omaha-Enfield extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fairfield Mules. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Javan Garrett made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
As for Fairfield, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.
On Fairfield's side, Jake Easton made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Easton a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Caleb King looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
Easton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Hodges, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. A Grieve was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Norris City-Omaha-Enfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fairfield, they will be playing at home against Centralia at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Orphans' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Mules' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
