The Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to take on the Watkins Memorial Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Vernon's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Watkins Memorial's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Mt. Vernon's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Northridge 16-0. The contest marked the Yellowjackets' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Keely Pollard made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pollard was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other pitching news, Miranda Oswalt looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Grace Bates, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Carly Kennedy was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Mt. Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Watkins Memorial's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Lakewood by a score of 6-5.
Carliee Taggart was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Gerhardt, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Watkins Memorial's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Mt. Vernon, their record now sits at 6-1.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mt. Vernon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Watkins Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mt. Vernon couldn't quite finish off Watkins Memorial when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
